Reporting Guidelines
What to Include
- Accurate phone number (digits only)
- Type of call (telemarketer, scam, etc.)
- What the caller said or requested
- Whether it was a live person or recorded message
- Any company names or organizations mentioned
What to Avoid
- Personal information (your name, address, etc.)
- Offensive or abusive language
- False reports or misleading information
- Reporting legitimate business calls as spam
- Reporting emergency services or official government numbers
Common Scam Types
IRS Scams
Callers claim to be from the IRS and threaten legal action unless immediate payment is made, often via gift cards or wire transfers.
Tech Support Scams
Callers claim your computer is infected with viruses and offer to fix it remotely for a fee, often gaining access to your personal information.
Social Security Scams
Callers claim your Social Security number has been suspended due to suspicious activity and request personal information to "verify" your identity.
